And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!
Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
~Macbeth Act 5 Scene 5
At first read you might think that by having the title of this blog as the sound and the fury I am somehow insinuating that, as the above quote suggests, I am some kind of idiot. Not so, really. I do, however, have a general knack for sticking my foot in my mouth and also for ranting a little more than the common person. That said, some others might think me an idiot on occasion.
I believe the quote above is more appropriate because, for the most part, the things we say and the things we do aren’t that significant and often mean nothing to the world around us. Either due to our own ability (or inability) to choose words and actions wisely or due to the general apathy of others. My hope is that at some point in my life something I said or some action I took actually impacted another. Whether it be in a change of opinion, how a person views a subject, a decision to act difrerently – it matters not. I just don’t want my life to signify nothing.
